The Bridge into the City of Lud by VonStreff The Bridge into the City of Lud by VonStreff
Bearing strong similarities with a certain bridge in New York City, this massive structure on the edge of a decaying city has fallen into disrepair. The travelers must cross, though, they have to follow the Path of the Beam.

Completely painted, this one took far too long to be considered concept art. Please critique and offer your feedback.

I like the mood, but the structure is implausible. There are no cable anchors to relieve the bending load on the end towers. Just look at any real suspension bridge.

This. Is. Perfect.
I think that you need to stop making this fottergraphs of Mid-World.
It's not fair, for the one who tries to draw.

Great job, btw.
(the ka-tet on the bridge it's a cool detail, even 'Oy' is there, and the central part of the bridge when Jake's is on the edge too. Gorgeous.)

Lud is the name of a city in the Dark Tower series. It's like a fantasy post-apocalyptic version of New York.

Thank you :)

the perspective of it looks perfect to me and the detail is amazing, but i agree with adding some rust or just even some random dirt and marks onto the metal work, it does look too perfect to be an old bridge.

Oh, this is great! I didn't read the title at first and when I saw the desolate state of the brigde, I immediately thought of Roland and his friends!
I just think that the perfect gradient in the sky doesn't fit in with the rest. I like to paint skies without using gradients, as they often look too perfect.

That's great! Thanks for the feedback, this piece is actually going to get some more work, so I'll be sure to fix that. I agree that gradients look too unnatural.

if I was kurby I would eat you right now to adsorb your power as an concept artist.

anyway I would of put some rust on the bridge to show decay. I was having trouble trying to work out if this was a old city rune or a city that had just been attacked.
Other then that this is another wonderfull concept peace that realey shows the sceean... as far as your description goes anyway. I haven't read read the book's so I don't know.

Great work on the bridge detailing...I guess that took a while and really hope you duplicated things a lot for the other supports! :) In general it reads really well though I think the colour palette is a little drab. This may be by choice but I think some lighting highlights would be quite useful to draw some focus and add a bit of interest, as it is a little too even. The sky is a little too 2 dimensional and would really benefit from added depth...you can do that by layering your clouds and have them get smaller into the distance (use ref) Also suggest playing with your perspective grid to add a bit of dynamism. If you are struggling with visualising that if you have a 3d program why not block up some basic shapes and use the camera to create a nice viewpoint then overpaint it?

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, lots of duplicate in here. :) Good info on the clouds, too, thanks for that.

Why did I know you were going to say that? :P Haha, yeah, but it's very subtle. I'll probably have it in another painting.
