Mines under the Cyclopean Mountains by VonStreff Mines under the Cyclopean Mountains by VonStreff
Artwork for my Dark Tower project. The mines in the book are actually pitch-dark, except near the station. I guess the station could be in the distance. I've uploaded an edited version, making it darker.

This is pretty excellent, but I feel like many of your pieces could use a few more hours of work. Some of them are flatly colored landscapes, with only outlines of mountainous or rocky regions. If you took them all to this level, and then worked on them for a little while longer, then I'm sure they'd be fantastic. Especially adding sharper edges and details to your pieces, that'd make them really 'pop'! Then again, I'm sure you already know this, since I've seen more of your work and seen what you can do. I'm loving the colors in many of your pieces.

Great stuff, man! :)

Thank you!! :) This is exactly what I want from people, proper criticism. Thank you so much. I do plan to spend a few more hours on pieces, and get them to a higher level. At the same time, I really want to perfect my bases paintings before worrying about rendering. They aren't that great yet..

Thank you, again. You are very kind! :)

Really nice, the light adds an extra level of composition that works really well with the dark arches.

You know your works are getting me interested in reading the book series.
Its amazing looking back to see how much you have improved in drawing over the past 12-18 months. Great job.

Oh yeah you probably want something more then just a pat on the back.
The depth is verry well done in the front but the space on the left has lost its depth it looks a little flat.
The cave wallls look more like burnt out treese then durt/stone/rock maybe try painting them softer. onley use the hard brush for the eadges.

The track and the light are the first things that I can see yet they lead my eyes right off the page. making me miss the right half of the image. Try to work on direction of the visual path to avoid that.

It's a good series, but quite long (and quite boring in parts, to be honest!) They've got it at the public library, the first book is "The Gunslinger".

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with how it's going, thanks for all your advice and support! :D

Most of your improvements is from your internship project.
But thanks :)

Yo, a nice sense of depth and I like your use of warm focal colour against the generally cold tones of the bg.
I think the midground columns are all at the same depth and make the image seem a bit flat at that distance. Suggest you play with that column on the left of the track and maybe push it back a bit? You could think about adding a foreground element to push the sense of depth.
I think the perspective could be pushed a little to make it more dynamic?
I had a moment of confusion with sense of scale. The skeleton and tracks are good things to add but perhaps an actual upright figure somewhere may help reinforce that.
I think I might do a paintover and post it in an hour or so :)

Many thanks! Yeah, all my paintings are quite bland, I think. I should really focus on getting more dramatic angles. There is an unobtrusive figure, but his scale is incorrect (I think?)

A paintover would be really appreciated! But only if you have the time, good sir!

Thanks! Should I tell or not? Okay, I'll tell you: they're mutants, mostly human, but with tentacles and abnormalities. I'd recommend the series if you like reading!
