Greetings - Process

The process for my piece Greetings

In the first stage, I do some quick linework.

Then, in the second stage, I do a very quick lighting and shade mockup, in tones of grey (never do full black or full white).

Thirdly, working from the background to the front, I place the elements. It looks very flat, as I use the lasso tool to quickly make the shapes and start colouring and adjusting the tones to fit.

In the fourth stage, I add detail, make rough light and dark to create form. I add detail on a new layer, merge it down, rinse and repeat till I am satisfied. I move around the painting to make sure it is getting the same treatment everywhere. Light is also added.

In the fifth stage, I add some more light, also using red to bring out a wider range of colours. The 'Blur' function under 'Filter' in photoshop is great for diffusing the colour, and making the light more believable.

In the final stage, I adjust colour, contrast, and cast an eye over everything to make sure it is satisfactory.
