Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to everyone here!
In this journal, I'd like to talk about improvement. To succeed in your own vision, and to become successful in life, improvement is always necessary. This can be applied to art, health, work, and basically everything and anything. There are a few ways to go about this.Goals
Set goals. Set ambitious goals. Set realistic goals. Ambition and reality are not mutually exclusive, and we shouldn't ever think that. You can be a better artist, a much better artist, within a year. But don't think you can be the next John Howe, the next Dan Luvisi, the next Da Vinci within that year. Make that your long-term goal, maybe in 20-25 years. Remember, Da Vinci was in his fifties when his impressive 'The Last Supper' was commissioned.
So set three sets of goals (or more): Daily, monthly, and yearly. Keep the big picture in your mind, but don't make that your goal in itself, because disappointment will inevitably descend without a closer achievable goal.Practice
Hard work. Again, no one can stress this enough. I've written two journals about it in the past, so if you need a refresher, check out these: Process, Tutorials, Motivation and Hard Work
and Per Aspera Ad Astra!Support
An army can't survive long without support, and neither can a dream. Don't let people bring you down, claiming you'll never make it, that you should just focus on your day job, that you aren't something special. If there is a negative influence in your life, you remove it. Find those who support you, and push the rest into the background. Be positive, follow the two rules up above, and each day wake up with the thought: Today I'm taking one step towards my goal.
I'm always here to answer questions, offer critiques, make tutorials, and help out in any way I can. Please check out my pages on FB here:Art: www.facebook.com/StevenRaaymak…Angelus: www.facebook.com/angelusnovel
